BRAIN

Tea is beneficial for your brain. It helps protect brain cells from degeneration and helps to keep the mind sharp and focused.

Researchers suggest any type of tea may be helpful for brain health. However,Catechins,a natural compound in tea, were found to protect brain cells from the protein, that builds up over the years and undermines cognitive function. The higher the Catechins content in a tea, the more effective it is for brain health.

Tea also contains caffeine but unlike in coffee,it contains theanine,a natural compound that reduces the side effects of the caffeine such as increased blood pressure, fatigue and headaches. Therefore,it provides the kick, with none or less side effects.

Changes in brain cells, such as loss of neurons, minor strokes and protein build up with ageing may all lead to dementia, a progressive decline in cognitive capability.

During a recent study, scientists analyzed drinking habits of 2,501 Chinese people aged 55 and older for four years. After a two-year period, tea–drinkers showed the same results on memory tests as they did at the beginning of the study, while 35 percent of those who did not drink tea showed decline in cognitive tests.
