Take heart all you tea drinkers out there! tea may reduce your risk of cardiovascular or heart conditions.

Some of the most common heart diseases are heart attack, stroke, and hypertension. These occur when unwanted blood clots form and disrupt or severely restrict the regular functioning of the heart. Drinking tea has shown to keep the arteries smooth and clog-free, thereby reducing the risk of blood clots formation.

Research has shown that regular tea drinking reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. These beneficial effects of tea are due to the bioflavonoids found in it which act as powerful antioxidants, and limit the effects of free radicals in the body.

Journal of American Heart Association published a study which found that tea consumption is associated with an increased rate of survival following a heart attack. This shows that tea not only prevents heart diseases, it helps people with existing cardiovascular conditions. A recent study found that drinking black tea improved endothelial function – the ability of the blood vessels to relax – in cardiac patients.

Last but not least, several studies have shown that tea drinkers seem to outlive their non-tea-drinking counterparts.
